We Are Coming Back To You
a Poem by Bob McFarlin
We are the 7th generation, thank you Ancestors, We are coming back to you.
Grandmother and Grandfather, thank you for holding the space and all the teachings too, We are coming back to you.
Opycancanough, Dragging Canoe, and Little Turtle too, We are coming back to you.
They took the land, they cut our hair but they could not take the teachings and memories so true, We are coming back to you.
Blue Jacket, Chief Logan and Sequoyah too, thanks for all that you do, We are coming back to you.
Ancestors you are still in our memories and therefore our hearts, We are coming back to you.
All of the whiskey and beer, all the drugs and opiates too, They could not wipe out your teachings and your memories too, We are coming back to you.
Thank you Jim Thorpe, Jackson Sundown, and Maria Tallchief for showing us what we can be, For your blood is in our blood and to know that sets us free, We are coming back to you.
Will Rogers, Te Ata, and John Trudell too. You told the stories that ring so true, They remind us in our hearts who we are. We are coming back to you.
Thank you Chief Dan George, Russell Means and Senator Nighthorse too. You knocked on the many doors until they let you through. We are coming back to you.
Never forget from where we come, there are many stories to be told, And we have to preserve them for the next 7 generations, so we must be bold.
Ancestors, we are coming back to you.
